Six-year Training Programme for a Central British Government Department
Client Request
A UK government ministry was looking to provide multi-disciplinary economics training for its employees, specifically those scheduled for overseas postings. The course was to run at its London headquarters. They turned to the LSE to design, deliver and manage a comprehensive training programme that would cover economics and the political economy, with the aim of enabling its employees to better coordinate and apply government policies.
Approach and Methodology
LSE Enterprise coordinated the initial design of the proposed programme by utilizing its in-house expertise in the relevant subjects and commissioning LSE experts from LSE's world-renowned Economics and International Relations departments. Through close collaboration with both the Economic Policy and Training departments of the client, the programme content and structure were finalised to ensure that relevant subject matters were covered within the scope of its current strategy and objectives.
Solution and Benefits
The outcome of the design work was a two-level course that covered diverse topics ranging from fundamental microeconomic principles to the Euro debate, from the role of ideas in shaping today's trading system to policy responses to international financial crises. Current LSE experts from Economics, International Relations, Accounting and Finance, and Government departments took part in the delivery of the programme. The programme now represents a six-year partnership with the course running up to 24 weeks per calendar year, training over 500 employees. The benefits that LSE Enterprise brought to the client in handling this project are clear - in its offer to design, deliver and manage the training programme it draws on the entire talent of the school. By capitalizing on the depth of experience at LSE, and access to the latest cutting-edge research and thinking at the university, LSE Enterprise was able to offer a first-rate customised programme. ^
