Executive Education Programme for a Global Financial Institution

Client Request

Understanding global trends in today's world economy is crucial for corporate success. Knowing how global trends create local impacts across the world, and how business strategy and individual markets will be affected -- is what creates a truly competitive advantage for a multinational company. So when the world's leading financial institution approached LSE to design and deliver a fully customised programme for one of its global business units, they tapped into an unmatched resource of knowledge and expertise.

Approach and Methodology

LSE Enterprise worked very closely with the client on the design of a week-long, residential programme. Through close collaboration, a detailed course programme developed that covered topics ranging from global economic trends and strategic impacts, to organisational psychology, innovation and leadership skills necessary to succeed in the current market. It was important to ensure that this was not a typical executive education programme. The structural components of the course included interactive lectures, panel discussions, facilitated topical group work, and group presentations by the participants themselves. The programme started from the view of the world at large and then focused on issues in local markets and how global players can tailor their strategies for success. The focal point of the programme was a set of group presentations by the participants in which they drew on what was learnt during the week, and applied that knowledge strategically and operationally to their business units.

Solution and Benefits

The solution offered to the client represented a comprehensive, coherent programme across a number of topics and issues vital to the client's success in today's business world. The programme participants (50 for each week-long session) came from all parts of the world. The diversity of experience among the teaching staff engaged on this programme was also unparalleled: from top-of-the-field economic and social science professors and information technology visionaries to leading authorities and experts on corporate strategy and leadership. The programme also included a facilitated self-assessment unit where participants could learn more about themselves, critical for self-awareness and self-improvement. Holding the event at LSE, in the heart of London, allowed the participants to also enjoy one of the most cosmopolitan capitals in the world. The ability to use a range of approaches and methodologies while covering a broad range of topics in business and social sciences is what ensured that this programme turned out to be a great success.
