Customised Workshop for British Government Training Authority
Client Request
A British government training authority that specialises in providing development and training programmes to government officials throughout UK needed to bridge a knowledge gap in a specific area. They turned to LSE to put together a topical workshop on the workings of the UK budgetary system: how the central government raises funds and, more importantly, how those funds are allocated to various government programmes and initiatives.
Approach and Methodology
LSE Enterprise put together a one-day workshop that addressed the most relevant issues of the UK budgetary system, sculpting the programme so that it fitted in with a larger training exercise which the client was running at the time. The emphasis was on hands-on application of the knowledge gained - the participants not only reviewed how the system works but also learned how to shape their priorities better, access government funds, and deploy them more effectively.
Solution and Benefits
The fully customised one-day workshop was delivered by three experts who covered the theoretical and practical real-world aspects of the topics. The participants engaged in interactive discussions and comparisons of industrialised and developing countries, drawing parallels with UK practice. With some 50 participants, composed entirely of senior officials, a tailored blend of interactive lectures, open-floor discussions and group exercises was achieved through careful study of individual profiles and preferences. LSE Enterprise ensured that the mix of content was also finely-tuned to successfully blend the workshop into the client's ongoing training programme. Additionally, the benefits of engaging with LSE faculty were supported by the expansive background and experience in international issues on offer. ^
